I started my car and it ran for a second and died. Acted like was not getting gas. IT FINALLY STARTED AND BACKFIRED REALLY LOUD AND NOW MY BROTHER IN LAW SAYS IT IS A NO TOLERANCE ENGINE AND NEEDS AT LEAST A TIMING CHAIN, COULD IT BE SOMETHING ELSE?

Yep it sure could be!..... Test compression....or have it tested.... IF it's ok.... Not the timing chain!!!
I would like the correct timing chain settings for my car, and would like to know how long it would take to change it out, and is it simple to do yourself?
I have had the codes checked and the the crankshaft sensor does not show as a problem. What else can I try? The car does not indicate that it is running hot and the temperature gauge is in the norm...
