1991 Oldsmobile 98 Q&A

1991 Oldsmobile 98 Question: Do I need a heater core at all for my car?

I need to replace my leaking heater core, but the labor cost may be more then what the 1991 Olsmobile 98 is worth. Can the repair shop disable the worn out parts or lines without having to remove the core, which may mean removing the dash-board? Would this disrupt the coolant flow for the engine? Thank you. This is a great site. I found it on google while researching the problem. -

YOU CAN BY PASS IT 4 NOW BY HOOKING THE 2 HOSES TOGETHER WITH A SUITABLE CONNECTOR AND CLAMPS -

Globalhelper: thanks for the advice. I'm bringing it in tomorrow and asking the shop owner if he can bypass the heater core, even though this means no heat in the winter, but it doesn't get all that cold here in San Jose and it will save a lot of money on a 20 year old car. Thanks again. -
