1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue Question: do i have to take off the power steering pump to take off the water pump

water pump needs to be changed

    REMOVAL PROCEDURE

    * Tools Required
    * J 36660 Torque Angle Meter

    1. Partially drain the engine coolant from the cooling system.
    2. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
    3. Remove the drive belt.
    4. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
    5. Remove the water pump pulley.
    6. Position aside the power steering pump.
    7. Remove the water pump bolts.
    8. Remove the water pump.
    9. Remove the water pump gasket.
    10. Clean and inspect the water pump mating surfaces.

    INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
    NOTICE: When adding coolant, it is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL (R) or HAVOLINE (R) DEX-COOL (R) coolant. If Coolant other than DEX-COOL (R) or HAVOLINE (R) DEX-COOL (R) is added to the system the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50 000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.
    1. Install the water pump gasket.
    2. Install the water pump.
    3. Use the J 36660 in order to install the water pump bolts.
    o Tighten the water pump bolts (long) to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) plus 40 degrees.
    o Tighten the water pump bolts (short) to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) plus 80 degrees.
    4. Install the water pump pulley.
    5. Loosely install the water pump pulley bolts.
    6. Install the power steering pump.
    7. Install the drive belt.
    8. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts.
    o Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.)
    9. Fill the engine cooling system with engine coolant.
    10. Inspect for leaks.
