2005 Mercury Mountaineer Question: differential

Is it pretty unusual for the differential to go out at 41000 miles?

    We had rear differentials go out at 10,000 miles especially with the diesel engine vehicles due to the high torque of the diesel

    one of the leading causes that make ur differential go, is if you change out the tires u need to change all four and not just one, bc the different tread size can trow off the differential and cause it to go. this has happened to me. so if u change ur tires make sure u change all for.
