My daughter's Beetle with 125K miles on it dies while idling (sometimes at a traffic light or just while setting). The starter is fine, but the engine will not start for 15 - 20 minutes.

You'll need to check the diagnostic trouble codes, see if the engine module registered a fault. If there are codes, post them here and I can get you come more info. Other than that, check for vacuum leaks, check the base idle speed and when it doesn't start, check for spark and fuel to the cylinders.

MY DAUGHTERS CAR DOES THE SAME THING. A 98 VW BEETLE. MECHANIC SAID SOMETHING ABOUT MASS AIRFLOW ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC. HOW DO YOU FIX THAT?

We fixed the problem, it was the crankshaft position sensor; fairly inexpensive and easy to replace (on the front of the engine at the bottom).
