This is the original Dave's Automotive, servicing the Austin area since 1997. Their second location (also in Austin) opened in 2008. This shop has a team of very experienced technicians, three of whom are ASE certified (two Master Techs). In order to keep up with all of the latest technology, each of them regularly attend training classes and seminars. The shop is committed to having the most up to date scan tools and diagnostic equipment to aid their technicians in accurate and efficient repairs. Performing state mandated smog and safety inspections is an additional customer convenience. The service light had come on, indicating it was time for some basic maintenance. They're always competent, friendly and reasonably priced.

I brought my vehicle in to this location to have the frame checked to make sure there was nothing wrong. This was going to be a new purchase and I wanted to double check. My car was serviced without my notice and when asking about it the reason was because I gave the wrong phone number and there was no way to contact me. My email was on there as well and I never got an email asking either. I contacted the shop and spoke to the manager the next day and he told me I could come back in and have the car put back the way it was previously. He did have some attitude as I assume there have never been any problems with customers or their cars before. I understand that Dave's Ultimate employees felt like this was dangerous and needed to be addressed. I came to pick up the car that evening, after hours, and was driving home and noticed that my car was pulling hard to the right. I called back the next day to let them know this issue and I was told I could bring my car back in. Upon looking at the paperwork the manager told me that this mistake was "on us" and that the alignment measurements were off. He told me I could bring my car in the next day. After the second day of having the car being looked at and fixed I tried to make it up there before closing. I was not able to speak to anyone about the issue. I took my car to a local shop to have the oil changed and tires rotated. When the employees of this shop tried to rotate my tires they noticed that I actually needed a key to take the rims off. When they looked under the car they noticed the tie rod was extremely loose/broken. I was told that could be highly dangerous if it were to come off. When I called Dave's to speak to the manager I was told if this is the case then a part would need to be ordered. I was also told that this is not their fault. They were the LAST company to do any type of work on the car which involved the alignment. This was several weeks ago. I still have yet to hear back about the problem and what is going to be done. I am upset with the way this situation was handled and would not like anything to do with this company in the future. I am led to believe that this incident was neglected by Dave's Ultimate Auto and should have been addressed. The manager told me that the loose tie rod situation was not on them- even though they serviced the car without my permission. Good customer service and work is hard to come by and it looks like there is some help that needs to be given in this area of your establishment.
The car was fixed as expected at a fair price. They were available for any questions I had.
They were a nice and polite group of guys. They have a shuttle service. They also fixed what needed to be fixed.
The staff was friendly. Like that I was able to get a ride to work after dropping my car off.
Made an appointment for the next day, comfortable waiting area, service was quick, price was reasonable.
The customer service is always great. The only thing that was disappointing was how much I was charged for the part.
Jim and Josh made it right. They let me borrow one of their mechanics to go for a ride in my car so that the mechanic could really figure out what was going on, rather than me trying to explain some abstract scenario to them. They put my car up on the rack, figured out the issue and then I asked the same mechanic who drove my car previously to drive it again to make sure that the issue that was there before was gone. It was gone, I also drove it and the issue was fixed. No cost to me, as previous work was under warranty. They made it right. At the end of the day, that is all you want... for it to just be right.

I called that morning around 8am, to get my oil changed. You were booked but said bring it in, and originally said it would take all day. I had nothing better to do but work on my laptop and hang out in the lobby.
Within about 2 hours I was out of there. The atmosphere is light, friendly, and fun while they do a great job to take care of their customers!

Great service. Didn't try to over charge me on service I didn't need. Ultimately they couldn't find my fault. But they recommended a specialist who could.
People were friendly however they fixed air conditioning and it worked for one day and now, is broken again, when I told them I was going across country, and had to drive 4 days with two kids and no air conditioning. Took another repair shop and they said it was another $750 to fix after just spending $1000...not happy.
I called the shop and was told I could bring my car in the next afternoon. When I showed up they said they were booked and couldn't get me in until the following week. I was not pleased. Then when I did bring the car in for repair, the main thing I asked to be fixed (the low tire light) was NOT fixed when I picked up the vehicle. I had to turn right around and come back to the shop so they could complete the repair I had already been charged for. Again, not pleased.
I bought a used car in San Antonio on Thursday that began to fail the minute I drove away. My mechanic in North Austin couldn't get to me until the following Thursday so, based on reviews, I contacted Dave's Ultimate Automotive in North Austin. I paid $111.68 for them to tell me what was wrong with the car. When "Jim" called me he gave me the green light on some of the things I was sure were wrong with the car. When I went to pick the car up, "Blair" confirmed that those things were indeed wrong (wheel bearings!) and needed to be replaced immediately. I asked that the estimate/evaluation be amended that I receive a copy. I was told it was emailed to me. It was not. This may not seem like a big deal but it cost me hugely. That day, the guy who sold me the car was amenable to either refunding some of my money or making good on repairs as long as I could provide him with documentation. Since I never got anything from the shop as promised, I couldn't provide anything to the seller and by Monday, when I STILL hadn't received a thing, the seller wasn't willing to do anything. I lost all my momentum because DUA didn't deliver as promised. When they saw the car I had owned it for less than 24 hours. By the time I had to contact them again and get them to send the information, I had had the car for over 3 days. That and the fact that I couldn't even get the straight skinny on my car when I PAID is unconscionable! I would NEVER use or recommend your shop, and quite honestly feel like I should have my money refunded!
I really appreciate the time you spent with me going over the areas that we fell down on time expectations for you. We were happy to refund your evaluation fee since it did not provide the immediate impact you were expecting. I'm really glad that everything has worked out since this post and hope that we have earned a second opportunity from our actions.

I went to have an oil leak fixed. They did not attach the plugs back correctly so I had to return. The next day I checked my oil because I was going to drive out of state and it was over 2 quarts short. It seems like common sense that if you take your car in for an oil leak that they would top you off before returning the car. I didn't expect that I would pay almost 600 dollars for a repair and then have the car returned to me without the proper level of oil. If I had not checked the oil I would have been on the road in the middle of Texas with a blown rod. I think this was horrible service. I will not be returning to Daves again.
Valerie, thanks so much for taking the time to speak with us. We were floored that we could make such a simple mistake considering we had to drain your oil to do the repairs. We are going to check the calibration on our equipment just to make sure it was an accident that does not re-occur. You have been a great customer for years now and we are sad to lose you to California, but happy that your perception of us is much better now.

Good repair work and a better ethic behind the work. Reasonable shop rates and parts prices. Customer service is excellent and there is some serious integrity when it comes to dealing with customers of all walks.
I usually have a great experience with Dave's. But this time, I had requested that my tires be balanced and rotated, because I was experiencing a bit of a wobble. I asked them to check the car over, as usual, and let me know of anything that needed attention. The wobble is still there, so either it was the tires, and wasn't properly addressed, or it is something else and was not properly addressed. Also, a headlight was out. The headlight may have happened just after I got the car back, that is possible, but it certainly does make me wonder. But the wobble is still a problem. It is a disruption for me to take my car in. I'm a sales rep, and need it functional and safe, and need to make sure problems are addressed when I take it in, because I can't do my job without my car. I can't just take a taxi to work. In order to have this addressed, I will have to take another day off to get this looked at again.
They provide the best customer and car service. They were recommended to me by a friend many years ago who stated their ratings were top notch and ever since going there that has been true. They are honest and I've never felt like I've been taken advantage of.

They did the repair job in a timely manner - I felt safe keeping my car @ this shop over night and for multiple days - Someone called me with estimate same afternoon - Shop ordered parts promptly - Mechanic even looked at a few other things I asked about while my vehicle was in for this repair - The shop gave me a decent discount for being a new client - The cost of the job was slightly below average compared to a few other quotes/estimates I received - My vehicle is still performing great! - Oh and the mechanics who worked on my vehicle gave it back to me exactly how I left it (Same radio station, seat setting, clean, etc.) - Yes, I would recommend this shop to friends and co-workers.
