I AM A SECOND OWNER OF THIS GREAT CAR. IT IS THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER HAD, SINCE 06/2008 FROM SILVERTON AUTO IN SILVERTON OREGON. MY QUESTION IS, IN THE FRON DASH BEHIND THE PLASTIC SHIELD IN FRONT OF THE DIALS AND SUCH, LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER THERE IS AN ICON OF A CAR. FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS OR MORE NOW THIS ICON HAS BEEN LIT ALL THE TIME. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE TO BE MOVING AND I PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WILL COME ON. I HAVE REPLACE THE REAR LIGHT BULBS AND IT IS STILL ON WITH THE ICON INDICATING THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE REAR. I HAVE HAD CERTIFIED MECHANICS LOOK AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS IN THE REAR, HOWEVER WHERE? WHERE IS THE PROBLEM IS WHAT I AM ASKING. I WAS RECENTLY TOLD THAT IF THE GROUND IS BAD IN THE ELECTRICAL CHASIS-GROUND TO BODY SOMEWHERE THAT THE PCM WILL GET AN OPEN CURRENT CIRCUIT AND THE PCM WILL READ THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG BACK THERE. IS THIS TRUE-WHAT AND WHERE TO DO AND GO? IF AT ALL POSSIBLE I WOULD EVEN BE GLAD TO TAKE A PHONCALL FROM SOME ONE OUT THERE THAT KNOWS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

The yellow icon you describe does indeed indicate rear light failure. Ensure all the bulbs in the rear work. Check that all the bulbs are the correct bulbs and same wattage for your Camry, (I've seen all sorts of problems with wrong bulbs in sockets). Get someone to operate the lights while you watch the bulbs light up. Are the bulbs all lighting up with the same brilliance, if not check white and black wires that are grounds for the lights sockets.

Just thought, check the wires that are in the harness that runs a long the left trunk lid hinge, the wires flex and break within the harness and can even give intermittent illumination of the yellow lights failure light.

AUTOTECHPAT, You may get questions of all kinds and by the hundreds. I, for me and my expression really thank you very much. You have been an awsome help. I in the past had been inclined to think along that way and investigate. I just think I dreaded going that route in the back of my mind. I wanted to exhaust all other "easier to get" avenues which of course did not work. So, I am gone and in pursuit of the end result of going by your information. Thanks again.
