dash instruments on 1996 Mercedes-Benz E320

My dash instruments don't always work, sometimes when I start my car they work and sometimes they don't, what could be the problem?

Have you seen any relationship to dash cluster and ecu or some were in between have same intermittent issue with dash cluster just had starting meltdown would not start needing a tow and once it got there turned key dash worked and started right up so ? Is this actually an ECM module problem?
