1993 Chevrolet Corsica Question: cutting out

mmullen, 3.1L V6, Bend, OR, October 21, 2010, 15:51

cam sensor has been replaced. how long can you drive the car if the cam sensor code wasn't set before there is valve damage? Also will this cause a diagnostic test to read that the map sensor isn't working properly?

A cam position sensor problem will not damage the valves. If the check engine light is on, there are trouble codes and data stored in the control unit and you need to get the codes read by someone with a scanner. The cam sensor is there to tell the controller what the camshaft position is so that the controller can regulate the fuel injection and ignition timing of the engine. You say the car is 'cutting out' so I guess you mean that the engine is running badly. If the cam position sensor is not working, the engine will not run well.
