2001 Volkswagen Jetta Q&A

2001 Volkswagen Jetta Question: Cruise control stopped working

My Jetta's cruise control stopped working without warning and hasn't worked since. -
Answer 1
there is very little you can do to diagnose this problem, as it could be mechanical or electrical. you will be better of having it diagnosed by a local shop that specializes in VW. -
Answer 2
My cruise control stopped working and didn't work for sometime; due to my neglect. 2001 vr6 manual transmission. Remove cover under dash by feet to inspect switched on clutch and brake pedals. These switches signal the cruise control to disengage when braking or shifting. The switch to the clutch broke at the plunger and estentially telling the cruise control that the clutch was depressed. Ordering the part is separate story; exact replacement was not available, from VW or on-line, and required trimming with a utility knife to fit into the mounting bracket and for the plug to insert. Didn't trim the plug, just the replacement switch. Total cost $25, two trips to VW & one on-line return Hope its something cheap and simple -
