crank sensor on 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis

where is the crank sensor located.

On the front cover passenger side just behind the harmonic balancer, should be close to the ac compressor if it is on that side like a truck or mustang.

Problem is rare. If I let the car sit for an hour it then starts perfect. Someone said it might be a cam sensor or similar.
this Grand Marquis has been doing this for probably two months sometimes it'll strand my wife for 10 maybe 15 minutes and it'll just crank over and not start. Sometimes or most of the time it'll ju... problem. Engine turns over, but won't start til it cools down. Any thoughts? I've heard crank sensor is bad.
