mechanic says the diagnostic equip shows that I need a rear main crankshaft seal replaced-leaking, as well as the transmission pan gasket needs replacing. It is due for auto transmission fluid change, anyway. What is a reasonable cost for this work. Quote is #1,555.96, due to 4-wheel drive.

Try taking it to a independent shop or transmission shop I think you should get a much cheaper price. both parts are very cheap and you just need someone to move transmission back far enough to replace the rear main seal and bolt back up. the book hours for this job is 16.30hrs my shop would charge $978.00 labor plus parts and taxes.
