Question: coolant leaking when engine is running

my wife told me the engine light came on and it smell like the antifreeze. at first when i look it look like it was coming from one of the hoses. the next day i went under the truck and wiped off all the hoses and asked my wife to start the truck, when the truck was started 2min later the coolant was leaking but it was not from the hoses it was coming from behind the wheel (i dont know what it ia calle) that one of the belts turns on. it is the whell that is on the bottom. help is this serious and expensive?

    This sounds like your water pump is leaking and IT IS SERIOUS, because you can run out of coolant and RUIN your engine in a heart beat.

    It runs from about $260-450 depending on who does the job, i.e Dealer or small shop with non-dealer parts.

    If the coolant is comming from behind a pulley it's almost for sure your water pump and usally the pump it self isn't to pricey it's the labor that can be a bit of money as it does usally take for alot of disassembly and after wards reassembly.
