Question: Coolant leak

 Rookie

CAR LEAKS 2 GALLONS OF COOLANT IN ONE DAY. CHANGED THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR WAS FLUSHED. OIL DOES NOT LOOK LIKE IT IS MIXED WITH COOLANT. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE THE PROBLEM.

    If you have this big of a leak it should be fairly obvious as to where the leak is, and if you can't determine where it is (sometimes it is very difficult) then I suggest having a professional locate the leak.

    THANK YOU. I ACTUALLY TOOK IT TO A PROFESSIONAL AUTO SHOP AND THEY CANNOT LOCATE THE LEAK. IF IT'S NOT THE THERMOSTAT OR RADIATOR WHAT COULD IT POSSIBLY BE. YOUR RIGHT 2 GALLONS OF COOLANT IN ONE DAY IS A BIG LEAK. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP !!!

    This just doesn't make sense. I suggest taking it to another shop.

    Head gasket failure is common on the North Star. It will consume coolant in that amount. Usuall though you can smell it in the exaust.
