Convertable top malfunction on 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500

Car just out from the winter and convertible top will only get part way through the process. Front will not unlatch. Some low sound clicking from the back convertible storage well. Tried to put down with engine on and off. Top pulls up from rear, storage door opens and that is it?

I'm sorry I can't answer your question but my question is related. My '95 500SL convertible top will not be engaged by right rear catch. The top is up now. Will it re-seat itself if I try to lower it or should I have it looked at?

your top is actuaqted hydrauically. The pump and reservoir are under the spare tire. The front locks also use this system via ONE actuator in the overhead sill. The fluid is so-called 5606A - best to buy at the dealership but its not cheap!
