Convertable doesn't work; no noise, no nothing on 1998 Porsche Boxster

When I unhook the latch the windows go down as normal, but once I press the button for the top to fold back nothing happens; no noise, grind, or anything

you will need a shop that specializes in Porsche to diagnose this for you.

Make sure that the rear doors and engine hood are closed, hand brake full on, and all windows are fully down before the convertible top will operate correctly. You should not have to unhook the latch. That works automatically. Well it does on my 1999 carrera. As you push and hold the button to open the top, all windows should go down and the top should operate. For closing, all windows will automatically close, and top starts to operate. Operating time is approx 20 seconds. If all this fails, check all your fuses situated in a box by your left foot. I was trying to fix an inside light and got a flash which resulted in me blowing a fuse which controlled the top and side windows. I found it and replaced it and the top and side windows are now working fine again. It was a 15 amp fuse. I had spare fuses in the box which i used to fix the problem.

Boxster has a heavy push button latch just above mirror.
