Code 171 and 174 come up what could it be?

    It means fuel lean condition on banks #1 & #2. Change your fuel filter, first choice. Next have it tested by a professional you trust for fuel trim diagnostics. Auto Zone will sell you some o2 sensors.

    I brought to my brothers mechanic said it was engine problem although it ran great, pd him $950. Got parts at junk yard $26 for gauges, $35 for intake and fuel runner, $73 vent solenoid, $87 intake gasket kit still not fixed 3 months later apparently water got in engine. Now he said he needs another $1000 engine froze, got unfroze in your opinion am I getting runaround and should I just cut my losses and get it out of there and not give him a $1000

    Have replaced loads of intake seals and the intake bolts on these. start the van cold,pour water over the intake and listen to the gurgling noise,that's water getting sucked into the intake via the faulty seals on the bolt washers and intake gaskets. VERY common!
