1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Q&A

1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Question: chip questions

hi i was looking in ebay an theres a chip that supposedly increases the horse power an saves you in gas do they actually work or are they just lies -
Answer 1
Generally speaking, more horsepower means using more gas, not less. While some aftermarket "chips" can increase horsepower I cannot see how one chip can do both. If it was possible the manufactures would do it. They are under so much pressure to improve fuel mileage and horsepower I cannot see why they would not do it if they could. In most cases, the factory "chip" is the best compromise between horsepower, fuel mileage, and dirveability for any given vehicle. -
