Chevrolet recalls

For Models: Buick Verano, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Sonic

Body, Interior & Misc., January 24, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The driver's front airbag includes a safety device called a shorting bar - this prevents unexpected deployment of the airbag when it is removed from the vehicle. In this case, the shorting bar may intermittently contact the airbag terminals while it is installed in the vehicle. This could result in illumination of the airbag warning light or the airbag may not deploy when necessary. Failure of the airbag to deploy would increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the steering wheel airbag coil to correct this concern.

For Models: Chevrolet Malibu

Suspension & Steering, January 23, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The rear suspension is a collection of components that are bolted together, supporting the rear of the vehicle. During vehicle assembly, one or more bolts securing rear suspension components may not have been tightened to the correct specification. If one of these bolts were to loosen, sudden changes in the vehicle handling characteristics could result, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and re-tighten the bolts as necessary to correct this concern.

Body, Interior & Misc., January 14, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Under regular conditions you should not be able to remove your key from the ignition cylinder while your car is on and/or your transmission is not in the Park position. This may occur due to a manufacturing defect in your vehicle's ignition lock cylinder. Removing the key while the vehicle is still running and/or in Park may allow your vehicle to roll away causing an accident. To correct this condition GM will replace the ignition lock cylinder and 2 provide 2 new keys. The GM recall # is 12332.

Drive Train, January 2, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

All late model vehicles are equipped with a "Shift interlock" system that prevents vehicles with and automatic transmission from being shifted out of the Park position under certain conditions. Some of these vehicles are being recalled because they may have been assembled with a broken park lock cable or a malformed steering column lock actuator gear. Failure of these components can allow the shifter to be moved out of the Park position with the ignition key removed or in the off position. This can cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly increasing the risk of injury or a crash. Dealers will inspect the recalled vehicles and replace the steering column as necessary.

For Models: Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon

Body, Interior & Misc., December 19, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The front hood is secured by two latches, the primary and secondary latch. The secondary latch prevents the hood from opening when the primary latch has been activated. These vehicles are being recalled because some may have been assembled without a secondary hood latch. With this latch missing, if the primary latch is not properly engaged the hood could open unexpectedly while driving. This could obstruct the view of the driver, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the hood on the affected vehicles to correct this concern.

For Models: Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Sonic

Body, Interior & Misc., October 31, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The driver side frontal air bag has a shorting bar which may intermittently contact the air bag terminals. If the bar and terminals are contacting each other at the time of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal airbag, that airbag will not deploy, increasing the driver's risk of injury. General Motors dealers will replace the steering wheel airbag coil to correct this concern. The General Motors recall number is 12261

For Models: Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac G5, Pontiac Torrent, Saturn Ion

Engine, October 2, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Certain vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, the states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, or Texas are being recalled because the plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module may crack, resulting in a fuel leak. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. Dealers will replace the fuel pump module to correct this concern. The General Motors recall number is 12190.

For Models: Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6, Saturn Aura

Drive Train, September 18, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

On vehicles equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission, the tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate. If this were to occur, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to "Park" and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in "Park." The vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior warning. Dealers will install a retainer over the cable end or replace the shift cable as necessary. The General Motors recall number 12106.

For Models: Chevrolet Sonic

Electrical & Lights, September 17, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

If a turn signal lamp fails to operate, the Body Control Module (BCM) may not detect this condition and may not alert the driver. If the driver is unaware that the turn signal is not functioning and does not have the light repaired, other drivers may not be alerted that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will reprogram the BCM and the vehicle's key fobs to correct this concern. The General Motors recall number is 12209.

For Models: Chevrolet Sonic

Body, Interior & Misc., August 17, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The windshield wiper washer hose on these vehicles may separate from the washer fluid reservoir. If this occurs, washer fluid will be unavailable. A lack of washer fluid could impede the driver's view, increasing the risk of a crash. To correct this concern, dealers will secure the windshield washer hose to prevent separation. The General Motors recall number is 12176.
