Operation of the anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control, and electronic stability control (ESC) puts to use a brake pressure modulator valve assembly. This valve assembly can fail causing the front brakes to lock up and not release. Locking of the brakes could result in loss of steering control and/or lengthened stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash. dealers will replace the brake pressure modulator valve assembly to correct this concern.
Fluid may enter the driver's door module, causing corrosion that could result in a short circuit in the door module. A short circuit may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing an odor, smoke, or a fire. Dealers will inspect the driver's door module, if it is functioning correctly, a protective coating will be applied. If the module is not functioning correctly, it will be replaced. The GM recall number is 12180.
Certain vehicles are being recalled because of concerns with the brake lights and cruise control operation. The brake lights can come on when the brakes are not applied and/or the cruise control may disengage. These functions are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). Your GM dealer will reprogram the BCM to correct this concern.
IMPCO Technologies installed a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system as original equipment on certain 2011-2013 full size GM vans. These vans are being recalled because the electrical connector on the fuel shut off solenoid can corrode, causing the connector to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire. Both dealers and fleet operators will be performing the necessary updates to correct this concern. The corrections include: replacing the fuel shut off solenoid, fuel pump fuse, and adjusting the wiring routing.
eAssist is a hybrid drive system that includes an electric motor to assist the gas engine under certain driving conditions. These vehicles are being recalled because there may be an internal fault with the Generator Control Module (GCM). The module could allow the battery to discharge to the point were the vehicle could stall and/or not start. Also, a burning smell, smoke, and/or a fire could develop in the trunk. Dealers will inspect and replace the GCM to correct this concern.
Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans are used by the Explorer Van Company as the base vehicle for some of their van conversions. Certain Explorer vans are being recalled because the wiring under the power seats may not have been properly secured during vehicle conversion. The wires can be damaged by the seat mechanism resulting in an electrical short and possibly a fire. Dealers will inspect and replace any seat wire harness found to be damaged. If the harness is not damaged, it will be secured to prevent future damage.
Certain 2011 Express vans converted by Impco Automotive to run on compressed natural gas may have a pressure relief vent pipe which may not have been built correctly. If venting of the natural gas were to occur, this gas could end up in the passenger compartment, increasing the risk of an explosion or fire. Impco Automotive, in cooperation with General Motors will inspect the pressure relief device and vent pipe assembly and repair them as necessary.
The driver's front airbag includes a safety device called a shorting bar - this prevents unexpected deployment of the airbag when it is removed from the vehicle. In this case, the shorting bar may intermittently contact the airbag terminals while it is installed in the vehicle. This could result in illumination of the airbag warning light or the airbag may not deploy when necessary. Failure of the airbag to deploy would increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the steering wheel airbag coil to correct this concern.
The rear suspension is a collection of components that are bolted together, supporting the rear of the vehicle. During vehicle assembly, one or more bolts securing rear suspension components may not have been tightened to the correct specification. If one of these bolts were to loosen, sudden changes in the vehicle handling characteristics could result, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and re-tighten the bolts as necessary to correct this concern.
Under regular conditions you should not be able to remove your key from the ignition cylinder while your car is on and/or your transmission is not in the Park position. This may occur due to a manufacturing defect in your vehicle's ignition lock cylinder. Removing the key while the vehicle is still running and/or in Park may allow your vehicle to roll away causing an accident. To correct this condition GM will replace the ignition lock cylinder and 2 provide 2 new keys. The GM recall # is 12332.
