Power assist to the braking system may be lost due to a problem with the vacuum assist, disabling the hydraulic boost assist. If this were to occur increased brake pedal effort would be required to slow and stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will update the software in the electronic brake control module to correct this concern. Affected vehicles are equipped with a 2.5L engine with the auto stop/start option.
The underhood bussed electrical center (fuse box) can expand causing the low beam relay to flex. Over time this can cause the relay to fail, resulting in loss of low beam headlight operation. Loss of headlight operation can affect the drivers ability see and be seen, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the underhood bussed electrical housing unit to correct this concern. 2008-2013 Chevrolet Corvettes will be covered under customer satisfaction program number 14203 for the same issue.
Increased resistance in an electrical connection at the body control module (BCM) may result in voltage fluctuations in the brake pedal sensor circuit. These fluctuations can cause concerns with various systems that monitor the position of the brake pedal, any of which would increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will reprogram the brake pedal sensor to correct these concerns.
Certain vehicles equipped with 17 inch front brake rotors are being recalled because during vehicle assembly, brake rotors intended for the rear may have been installed on the front. The rear rotors, while the same diameter, are thinner and may result in a front brake pad detaching from the caliper. Braking ability would be reduced suddenly if a brake pad were to detach. The resulting increased stopping distance would increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the front brake rotors, and install the correct rotors with new brake pads, as necessary to correct this concern.
In order to help prevent rollaway type accidents, all late model vehicles are designed so that the transmission must be in park (or reverse for a manual transmission) before the ignition switch can be turned to the "off" position and the key removed. These vehicles are being recalled because the key can be removed when the ignition is not in the "off" position, increasing the risk of a rollaway type accident. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the ignition lock cylinder as necessary. 2 new keys will also be supplied and programmed as required.
The vehicles being recalled are equipped with an electric power steering (EPS) assist system. The EPS can fail unexpectedly while driving. If this were to occur, steering ability would be maintained but much greater effort would be necessary to steer the vehicle, especially at slow speeds. One of four remedies will be applied depending on the model and year. Parts are not yet available so expect a second notification when they are.
These Cruze models are being recalled because the right front axle shaft can break. If this were to occur while driving the vehicle would coast to a stop. If parked in this condition without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could roll unexpectedly. Either case has an increased risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the right axle assembly as necessary. Replacement parts are not yet ready, a second letter will be sent when they become available and the recall can be completed. This is an expansion of a previous recall, parts previously installed may need to be replaced again.
Increased resistance in the front seat mounted side impact air bag (SIAB) wiring harness can result in the SIAB and seat belt pretensioners not deploying as expected in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections to correct this concern.
Certain vehicles are being recalled because if a crash were to occur not requiring deployment of the front airbags, the head of an unbelted front seat passenger could hit the instrument panel, resulting in personal injury because the panel may not sufficiently absorb the impact. As of this writing, General Motors is still working on a remedy for this concern.
These vehicles are being recalled because the weight on the key ring and/or a jarring event while driving may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Dealers will replace the ignition switch to correct this concern.
