In a crash that deploys the passenger front air bag, the inflator of the air bag can rupture, causing metal debris to strike vehicle occupants. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator free of charge to correct the concern.

The flexible steel cables that connect the front driver and passenger seat belts to the vehicle may be bent, and could as a result can break. Dealers will replace the outboard lap anchor mounting bracket and inspect the flexible steel cable, replacing it as necessary free of charge to resolve the concern.

When selecting the gear with the transmission shifter, the console shift indicator may not illuminate to show the gear that was selected. This could cause the selection of an inappropriate gear. The dealer will replace the transmission gear selection control module to resolve this issue.

Engine oil may leak from the valve cover area, which can cause a burning odor and increase risk of fire. Dealers will replace the spark plug wire retainer to redirect the dripping oil on affected vehicles, and will replace the left valve cover gasket on vehicles with the 3.8L V6 supercharged engine.

The rear brake pads may stay partially applied after the parking brake is released. The electronic parking brake actuating piston may not fully retract. Dealers will reprogram the electronic parking brake control module with new software free of charge to resolve the concern.

A switch that automatically controls the operation of the roof panel is not correctly recessed and may be activated accidentally. Any objects or passengers in the open roof area under closure could be crushed or injured as a result. Dealers will replace the surrounding switch trim to recess the switch and correct the problem.

The engine may start after exiting the vehicle, due to a software issue. The dealership will update vehicle engine management software to correct this problem.

The brackets that secure the left and right parking brake cables may become detached because of a failure of the fasteners that secure them. This can prevent the parking brake from holding the vehicle. The dealer will inspect the fasteners and tighten them as necessary free of charge to resolve the problem.

A software failure in the parking brake system has resulted in incomplete disengagement of the parking brake pads from the rotors, causing excessive brake wear and heat leading to a potential fire hazard. Increased heat in the brakes limits the ability to stop effectively, and accelerating under braking can cause damage to the transmission. Dealers will reprogram the braking module with new software to remedy the problem.

These vehicles have power steering units which may fail while driving.  Loss of power steering is most noticeable while driving slowly or parking, resulting in a heavier feel at the steering wheel. Slow speed maneuvers can become difficult and potentially unsafe. Dealers will replace the affected components free of charge. This recall is an expansion of an earlier GM recall (14V-153) to cover additional vehicles.
