Rear Brake Lines May Be Too Close to the Exhaust

Brakes, January 18, 2005

RepairPal Expert Overview:

On certain vehicles, the rear brake lines may be close, or come into contact with the exhaust manifold. This could heat the lines and boil the brake fluid; the lines could also wear from contact. If the brake fluid boils, or leaks, effectiveness of the rear brakes would be reduced and a crash could occur.

Dealers will inspect the left engine exhaust manifold clip for alignment and placement on the body mounted stud. If it's correct, they will reposition the clip on the brake lines and reinstall the clip on the stud. Dealers will ensure that both rear brake lines have the proper clearance to the left exhaust pipe and the machining tab on the rear differential housing will be removed. The brake lines in the affected areas will be inspected for damage and will be replaced if there are signs of wear-through on the nylon overcoating. The recall began January 18, 2005. The GM recall number is 04086.

Power Steering Hose May Burst

Suspension & Steering, October 14, 2005

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Some vehicles have a power steering hose that was not made to specification and may rupture under extreme steering conditions. If this were to happen, power steering assist would be lost and steering effort would increase. On vehicles equipped with hydro-boost brakes, braking effort would also increase. If power steering fluid were to spray on hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could also occur. Dealers will inspect the power steering hose(s) for the two suspect date codes and replace them if needed. The recall began October 14, 2005. The GM recall number is 05086.

Control Arm May Separate from the Steering Knuckle

Suspension & Steering, August 25, 2004

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The washer for the control arm ball stud may have been made of the wrong material, and may fracture and fall out, or become loose. The control arm may separate from the steering knuckle due to disengagement of the tapered stud, causing the vehicle to drop at that corner. In extreme situations, the wheel may separate completely from the vehicle. Either condition would impair handling and increase the chances of a crash. Dealers will inspect the torque on the ball stud joints on all front and rear lower control arms. If the torque is not to specification, the ball stud, knuckle, and nut will be replaced. If the torque is to specification, the dealers will replace only the ball stud nut and washer. The recall began August 24, 2004. The GM recall number is 04043.

my o6 conv. is agood car but it has problems, my driver's door glass used to go down a little when you opened the door and go back up when closed, about 3 weeks ago it quit going back up when you closed the door. I was wondering if any one else had this problem on their c6 convertible.

I turned a corner to a shopping center at about 15 MPH and broke the left rear spring bolt. Car had 92,000 miles on it.

Both rain gutters now craked. The passenger sidde cracked last year, (2011), the drivers side has been cracked since 2005. Both need replacement. I lovoe the car but dissapointed about those two items.
