2004 Hyundai Sonata

Question: Check engine with error code P0134, P0401 and P0733

Question

My Sonata started showing the check engine light recently and of late the engine cuts off. It restarts after a short time but tends to cutoff again in a little while. The spark plugs are fine and the engine seems to run fine. I do notice a squeal, possibly the water pump and a slight knocking / scraping sound.

What could the problem be?

401 is an egr code, 134 i believe is a crank sensor and 703 is a trans code. the 703 is a problem. hyundai reccomends trans replacement with that code. that is expensive. the crank sensor is stright forward repair and the 401 is a dpfe code. take it to a shop and let them tell you the issues.

Turns out that the problem was:

    a. Timing belt was loose and some of its teeth were worn causing the squeak.
    b. Crank sensor was defective causing a loss of spark with engine dying.

Had both these replaced and the engine runs fine now.
