Check engine light with shifting at higher rpms on 2005 Honda Civic

Hi, My check engine light came on the other day and I noticed the car shifting differently. It will shift at a higher rpm than it normally does. Then out of the blue the light CEL went off and it was back to normal. Then a week later the light came back on and it is shifting at a higher rpm again. Any ideas what this could be? Thank you very much.

A problem with the transmission could cause both of these symptoms, including the light. It could also be another system in the vehicle causing a driveabiliy problem and the light. You need the trouble code or codes to figure out what the underlying cause is--best bet is a good diagnostic technician.
