My 97 Bonneville 3.8l just 3 days ago wouldn't start because of 0-10 degree weather. It did crank but acted like it was back firing 2-3 times and then threw check engine light and won't crank now, the battery has 12 volts, but won't even attempt to turn over engine. i rented a Autoscanner from Autozone and it says there are no codes stored. any help would be helpful.

1997 Pontiac Bonneville Question: check engine light with no crank
Answer #1dandd January 10, 2010, 20:55Master
Any time the car won't crank and the key is on, the Check Engine Light is on. May be have a tow truck give you a jump to see if your car will turn over. Not sure why it back fired, but first get it to turn over correctly and then go from there.
