Check Engine Light on Due to Faulty Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor on Honda CR-V

On certain models a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor (FTP) can cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. The FTP sensor will generally require replacement to repair this condition.

2002 Honda CR-V 205,000 mi,
check engine light comes on when gas tank level goes from near to full to about half. Often, removing and replacing the gas cap turns the ce light off.
2004 Honda CR-V 170,330 mi,
dealer found fuel tank preasure sensor defective. payed $100 for diagnosis. they want $255 part & $400 labor. i found the part for $143 @ rockauto.com. part # is su7166.will replace part myself looks easy.
Vapor lock problem. removed gas cap tapped on it a few times and left the cap off and fuel open for 1.1 hours. Replaced cap closed fuel door. Light was off when I started the car. Problem has not returned.

Check engine light went on with a faint smell of gas coming through the vents when car was running idle. Was told I had "overfilled" the gas tank by the dealer mechanic. I do not "top off"my gas tank, nor did I accidentally overflow the tank.
