Question: check engine light on

 Rookie

I just had the exhust system replaced 2 weeks agao and now check engine light came on. Did this cause cat to go bad which could be the cause ? or what could it be to have light come on.

  If the exhaust system was replaced from the cat. back it should not have anything to do with the check engine like coming on. Unless there was a O2 sensor in the exhaust pipe that was installed new. If it was left off or not plugged back in then yes this could be your problem. I would take the car to your local auto parts store have them scan the codes for you, It's free. Ask them to reset the codes and make a note of the code numbers, drive the car and see if the light returns before fixing anything.

  took it in had codes scan. Codes were P0440 and P01811 Leak tested EVAP system. Filler pipe was very rusted. Replaced filler pipe and Gas Cap. P01811 has something to do with Transmission Not sure what that means.

  check engine light comes on if the the coolant is low as well might wanna check that too.
