Question: check engine light is on

my 2000
Taurus' check engine came on 2 day ago and about that time the started to cut off almost any time I'm at a stop light. If I shift to neutral it wont cut off. What could the problem be?

  it depends on what the trouble code is.it could be as simple as a pcv tube collapsed or broken,to a transmission concern,have your codes retrieved and go from there.
