Check Engine Light appeared the Mechanic diagnosed it as EGR and replace the Solenoid. The Engine light re-appeared only after driving 100 Miles. Kindly advice.

If the code is still an EGR related code, then take it back to the mechanic who misdiagnosed and inaccurately repaired this code. It is the DPFE Sensor that fails most often on this vehicle for an EGR code problem. Here is an article I wrote about Ford EGR codes and their problems. I hope that it helps, you can print it out and show it to your mechanic. I do Emissions work in Ca and I deal with this stuff constantly.

You will need to recheck to see what code has been set on your 2000 Mercury Sable. If the same code has reset the system will need to be re-diagnosed. If a different code is now in the computer memory it will need to be diagnosed. There are many different sensors and systems which can trigger the check engine light to come on. Please use the following link to see all the different fault codes that can turn your check engine light on - http://repairpal.com/obd-II-code-chart.
