My Lexus es300, 130k, has been well maintained with all required maint up to date. When I was driving today the engine started missing and , check engine light started flashing. The car did not die and I was able to make it the 3 miles to my home. What could this be caused by? Thanks.

A misfire can be caused by a bad spark plug, ignition coil, fuel injector, vacuum leak or mechanical damage to the engine. You shouldn't drive the vehicle if the check engine light is flashing, you can damage the catalytic converter, it's probably OK after 3 miles, but avoid any more driving and get it checked out. Here is some more info about the check engine light and the misfire codes: http://repairpal.com/check-engine-light http://repairpal.com/OBD-Code-P0300

I had the vehicle towed to the Lexus repair shop to be safe. The repairman called me for more information, as they couldn't find the problem. I explained the issue again and repairman called me later to say that the car is ready, and I should go to AutoZone and get a couple bottles of injector cleaner to use over the next 6000 miles or so... it worked! I bought some GuMOut injector cleaner for vehicles over 75k miles.. which was a little more expensive but I figured it would be worth it.. The Lexus bill was only 171.00... and 100.00 of that was for the tow to the dealer...
