Question: Check engine light comes on for a while and goes off sometimes it blinks,

when it is blinking car engine does not die but stepping on the gas makes no differance in car speed. once light goes back to solid on or off it runs fine. Toyota dealer did the 90,000 mile service made no differance they could not find the cause of the light coming on.
Auto zone coded read the engine and came up with code P0300 both before the service and after ( Random cylinder misfire detected )

    why did toy dealer work on your mazda? seek an est and diag from a good ind. shop or maz dealer. or return to toy for warranty issues

    was due for 90,000 service anyway the issue was ongoing prior to service this dealer normally does work on this vehicle when needed.had it back in a couple of days later engine light came back on they could not track down the cause.

    You have an intermittent problem...when you say "stepping on the gas makes no difference" are you refering to the car ITSELF speed or the car ENGINE speed? Have a competent independent shop or a Mazda dealership diagnose your car.

    both the car and engine speed do not change car keeps going the speed it was when the light started blinking once the light quits blinking then it operates normally. waiting to have the money available for mazda dealer to try their hand at solving issue. toy dealer usually works on this car and always has done a great job in the past but not this time.

    I have this same problem on my 2002 protege5... I've had coils replaced twice, the last time was about 3 weeks ago and the problem has just come back... I've found other posts about this issue and am wondering why Mazda hasn't issued a fix. Some fixes were cracked boots on the wires to the coils? I haven't tracked it down yet but it has to be an issue with some sort of connection to the coils... EXTREMELY annoying issue.....
