The check engine light comes on and off about every 5 to 7 days. During the week I only drive 14 mi a day. When I drive on weekend @ interstate speeds, check engine light will go off. When I run the code--it says--catalyst system, right bank, underperformance. What is this? and a estimate of repair would be helpful?
car has 185000 miles on it. it gets regular maitenence.

WITH THIS MILEAGE I WOULD SUSPECT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS DONE. CALL AROUND TO LOCAL MUFFLER SHOPS FOR EST AND AVAILIBILTY. YOU MAY HAVE TO PURCHASE FROM THE DEALER. BIG $

I might would agree with you about the mileage, but this is a Volvo, it goes about 300,000 miles before you have problems with it. As i said it has had regular maitenence and required maitenence at times stipulated by
Volvo. Also if the cataltic converter is done as you say the OBD-2 system would recognize this and the check engine light would stay on constantly. Repectfully I'll have to disagree with you on your answer, but thanks
    for trying.
