Check engine light came on at the same time my speedometer stopped working? Do I have a dash board problem?

    no, the computer looks for road speed from the speedometer. it is a call for help. get it checked out for a speed sensor.

    So, the check engine light is tellin me the speed sensor is bad?

    Basically that is correct!...
    The computer knows the car is moving (transmission gear input and throttle position input) but it isn't recieving any input from the speed sensor to relay to the speedometer head!...

    IF the speedometer quits working and isn't accompanied by a check engine light, that generally leads to a speedometer head issue!...

    Speedometer head malfunction Will Not bring engine light on because sensor on transfercase will still tell computer vehicle speed. so yes u need sensor on left side of transfercase--trans.output shaft sensor
