My wifes car jerks when I hit the gas, but at random times. The check engine light is on, what could be causing that?

    Many thing, just look at this list of possibilities: http://repairpal.com/obd-II-code-chart
    You will have to get the codes pulled from the engine control module, then reference this chart to see where you should start diagnosing the problem.
