CHECK ENGINE LIGHT on 2001 Audi A6 Quattro

TOOK TO A MECHANIC, WAS TOLD TI IS THE TRANSMISSION. REFERED TO TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. TOLD SAME, BUT WOULD NOT PUT IN WRITING SPECIFIC CODE PROBLEM OR REPAIR REQUIREMENT. I AM PUZZLED.

WHOA! if the fault in the engine is MIL request and the trans fault is torque conv performance/stuck off you need a torque convertor only! the trans may need to be replaced only if another issue is verified by diagnosis. please get and post the codes.

THE CODES LISTED ARE 733 AND 741. I AM TOLD THAT THE CODES MEAN THIRD GEAR AND FIRST GEAR ARE FAILING... WHAT IS THE CORRECT.
