1999 Saab 9-3 Question: check engine light

 Rookie

check engine light came on.manual says says"it indicates a malfunction in the fuel-injection or ignition system"it start right up.does'nt stall,shifts smooth,no loss of power'has 102,000 miles,maybe needs tuneup?

    Doesn't need a tune-up. There are many reasons the check engine light can come on and many of them will not have an effect on the way the engine runs. Check the gas cap first, make sure it's installed correctly, if it's not sealing properly the light will come on.
    There will be a code stored in the engine computer when the light comes on, this code needs to be retrieved to determine why the light came on.
