If you don't have the money to take it to the Dealer, then you sure don't have the money to fix this if it overheats ($$$), so be real careful that doesn't happen. There are a few independent repair shops in your area that can diagnose this problem, look here:

I too have a 2002 CLK320 and the same light came on. In my case it was the Radiator Fan Motor. It would not turn. It s the big fan behind the radiator. You can't just buy the motor, you must buy the entire assembly which is around $418 to $500. I found one at a speciality salvage yard in town, but they want $200 for a used one w/ a 90 day warranty. I got a can of silicone spray and sprayed behind the fan and managed to free up the fan, but 2 days later it did the same. This car was given to us as a gift, and we're not in the same league as the rest of the owners out there, but seems like whenever you tell someone you have one, they assume you make $$$ and want to charge you accordingly.
