Have a honda civic 2001 Ex what is the cause off check engine P1705 code and what is necessary to fix this.

    that is a short in the range switch.basically its the component on the transmission that tels the computer which gear you want.this code means its reading more than one gear at a time or just the same gear all the time.an aftermarket radio or alarm tapped into the wrong wire can cause it but most likely just a shorted out switch.the dealer can confirm and replace.it will need to be lined up properly so you may not wat to try it yourself.

    would this cause car to just idle as if it were in park or nuetral? should i check this before I buy a new torque converter?
