We have started seeing this problem also about 3 months ago. It only happens when the car sits over night and it does it once when we start the car and then not again the rest of the day. We also noticed that the longer it sits (ie: 3 days) the more smoke comes out upon the 1st start. We brought it in for repairs and our "Toyota Dealership Mechanic" told us it was the rack & pinion leaking. The steering is fine and shows no signs of wear, so we didn't replace that.
