1997 Volvo 850 Problems
The AC evaporator can develop a leak resulting in insufficient AC cooling. Our technicians recommend when replacing the evaporator, have a pollen filter kit installed to help with air quality in the cabin.
It's quite common for the the fuel pump to fail, causing a no start condition. The engine will crank over but it will not start.
To verify this the fuel pressure and electrical power to the fuel pump should be checked. If the pump is getting power and there's no pressure, replace the pump. If it isn't getting power, check the fuel pump relay circuit.
If you hear a loud knocking noise from the rear of the car while driving then there's a good chance the rear upper shock mounting plate is broken. We suggest replacing both rear upper shock plates at the same time because the other one is likely ready to fail as well.

1997 Volvo 850 Reviews
Have owned it 4 years now with minor repairs needed, strut bushing, PNP switch, and ABS module. The car gets 30 MPG on the freeway, and with 161,000 miles it's gonna last me a while.
I've owned this car for a few years and it has had some of the typical problems associated with this vehicle, ABS control module failed, broken shock mount, broken upper motor mount, leaking turbo return line seals etc. The vehicle is a good daily driver but requires regular maintenance and repairs to keep it in good condition.
