2012 Toyota Sienna Problems

Problem With Door Mechanism in Electric Sliding Doors

Models with electric sliding doors can develop problems with the door mechanism. The cable in the door becomes frayed, which will damage the electric motor.

Massive Oil Leak and Loss of Oil Pressure

The VVT-i oil line is known to burst. This is a very large leak which covers the ground, engine, and undercarriage.

If the oil line ruptures while driving, the low engine oil message and engine oil pressure warnings will illuminate. Continued use after these warnings will result in complete engine failure due to oil starvation.

The line is known to be defective, and a revised part has been issued by Toyota, however, this revised part is known for the same issue.

To repair the issue, the line must be replaced, and the engine bay and undercarriage must be cleaned thoroughly.

Power Sliding Door Opens Unexpectedly While Driving

The power sliding door may not open when commanded, and may open unexpectedly while driving. As of the time of this writing, a repair procedure is still being developed. Dealers will make repairs to resolve the concern free of charge.

Possible Fuel Leak

82 vehicles manufactured by Eldorado National-Kansas (ENK) may have a condition where the left rear shock absorber can contact the fuel filler neck. These vehicles are all modified versions of the Toyota Sienna. The resulting damage could cause a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire. ENK dealers will relocate the rear shock absorbers and add a spacer to correct this concern.

Incorrect Vehicle Weight Rating Label

Vehicles have a tire size/weight rating label to inform owners of the carrying capacity of their vehicle. These models are being recalled because the incorrect vehicle weight rating is shown on the information label. This could result in vehicle and tire overloading, increasing the risk of tire failure. Owners will be provided an updated vehicle weight label to correct this concern.
