2006 Scion xA Repair and Maintenance
A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your 2006 Scion xA
2006 Scion xA Problems
An illuminated Check Engine Light could be caused by a defective VVT-i controller, which changes cam timing for optimal power. Updated parts are available and the repair may be covered under the powertrain warranty.
The AC evaporator drain hose may become dislodged and cause a water leak on the passenger floor.
When backing up and applying the brakes, you may hear a squeaking noise. Scion engineers addressed this problem by modifying the shape of the brake pad and the anti-squeal shims; they also applied more grease during assembly.

I drove 275 miles on a full tank on my last tank. This time I filled up and reset my mile gauge to track it again because I thought I was crazy. The car usually gets 350 miles+ a tank. 2006 Scion xA Recalls
Southeast Toyota is recalling 2005–2011 models for failing to comply with federal safety standards on tire selection and rims. Affected models were sold without the proper load-carrying capacity modification labels, which may cause the driver to overload the vehicle, increasing the chance of a crash. Dealers will mail the correct labels to the customer or install the label free of charge.
The load carrying capacity modification label may be missing from the vehicle. This information provides maximum load carrying weights as well as information about required tires and wheels. If not present, an inappropriate load may be carried in the vehicle, increasing a safety risk. Toyota has supplied customers with a new label to affix to the vehicle. This recall began on August 18, 2009.
Some aftermarket cruise control systems installed for Southeast Toyota may not allow the engine to return to idle the first time the on/off switch is depressed while the system is engaged. The system will commonly disengage on the second attempt. This could result in higher that expected engine speed, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the cruise control module as necessary. This recall is expected to begin on March 7, 2007. The Gulf States Toyota recall number is P701.

I bought my brand new 2006 Scion xA, 10/11 in N.M. After driving pick ups it was quite the change. The best one I've ever made. With 80,000 miles plus, I've only replaced the belts, front brakes and of course new tires. It runs like a champ and gets around 36mpg. If at some point I need to buy another car, it will be a Scion. Easy to drive, has plenty of power for a 4-banger and hauled 2 dogs a...
I've been driving over 50 years and have had about 8 different cars and I can honestly say my 2006 xa is the most reliable car ever. I've put 200k miles on in 7 years and all I've had to replace have been wheel bearings and air conditioner parts. Motor, automatic trans, and suspension; nothing. Incredible and more so that it rides and drives like new!. The secret, not sure but I'm sure always u...
