2000 Saturn SL1 Problems

A/C off for Engine Protection and Engine Reads Cold

The 1996-2002 Saturn SL1 may display the warning message "A/C off for Engine Protection" on the instrument panel. This may be accompanied by illumination of the check engine light and the temperature gauge reading cold at all times. This is a feature of the engine that is activated by the power control module when it detects the engine warming up too slowly. The OBD trouble code P0128 may also be stored.

The cause is simply a worn out thermostat that stays open at all times, preventing the engine from reaching the proper operating temperature.

Replacement of the thermostat will correct the issue.

Noise From Front of Engine Due to Timing Chain

The timing chain may come into contact with the timing cover, causing noise in the engine. Replacement of worn timing chain components will be necessary to correct this concern.

Front Brake Rotor Wear Can Cause Pulsations

Front brake rotors can wear causing a pulsation felt in the brake pedal. Our technicians tell us this condition is best corrected by replacement of the front rotors and brake pads.

Love this car great gas mileage, not much power but very reliable. I had a 2005 ford focus, and this saturn runs just as good if not better than the focus. Only had to do regular matinence.
I bought this car used years ago with 75k on it. I have over 140k on it now and still going strong. The only problem I have had with it is a leak in the intake manifold gasket, 350 bucks. For a basic car it does most thing just fine. It gets fine gas mileage, between 30 and 40 mpg, Average on a 75 deg. day, not too hilly, steady at 60 to 65 mph is 37mpg. Use synthetic oil and use a good air...
