2010 Saturn Outlook Problems

A/C off for Engine Protection and Engine Reads Cold

The Saturn Outlook may display the warning message "A/C off for Engine Protection" on the instrument panel. This may be accompanied by illumination of the check engine light and the temperature gauge reading cold at all times. This is a feature of the engine that is activated by the power control module when it detects the engine warming up too slowly. The OBD trouble code P0128 may also be stored.

The cause is simply a worn out thermostat that stays open at all times, preventing the engine from reaching the proper operating temperature.

Replacement of the thermostat will correct the issue.

2010 Saturn Outlook Recalls

Liftgate Falls Closed Without Warning

The power liftgate may fall suddenly from the open position due to the failure of the struts that support it when open. Dealers will update the software for the liftgate actuator motor control unit to prevent rapid closing of the liftgate free of charge to resolve the problem.

Front Seatbelt Buckle Failure

In the affected vehicles, there is a flexible steel steel cable that connects the seatbelt buckle to the front seat frame. Over time the cable may fatigue and separate. If the steel cable separates, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing the risk of an injury in a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected seatbelt buckles (lap pretensioners) to correct this concern.

The Side Impact Airbag System May Not Deploy As Expected

Increased resistance in the front seat mounted side impact air bag (SIAB) wiring harness can result in the SIAB and seat belt pretensioners not deploying as expected in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections to correct this concern.
