2000 Saturn LW2 Problems

A/C off for Engine Protection and Engine Reads Cold

The Saturn LW2 may display the warning message "A/C off for Engine Protection" on the instrument panel. This may be accompanied by illumination of the check engine light and the temperature gauge reading cold at all times. This is a feature of the engine that is activated by the power control module when it detects the engine warming up too slowly. The OBD trouble code P0128 may also be stored.

The cause is simply a worn out thermostat that stays open at all times, preventing the engine from reaching the proper operating temperature.

Replacement of the thermostat will correct the issue.

Check Engine Light Due to Gas Cap Issue

A Loose or worn gas cap may cause Check Engine Light to illuminate.

Burning Smell Due to Valve Cover Gasket Leak

A burning smell may develop due to an oil leak form one or both valve cover gaskets. Resealing the valve cover will generally correct this concern. However, the valve covers should be inspected and replaced if damaged.

I bought my 2000 LW2 V6 new as lease and it runs like a champ. After lease end, I bought it off. For eleven years, it gives me no big problem. The first problem was the idle pulley broke into pieces and the serpentine belt needed to be replace. Did the repair myself. I have left the car unused parking outside for a long time (seven month through the winter)and it started right up. Rep...
Had some fit and finish issues covered under warranty. Also coolant gasket, a/c fan, water pump, maf, all covered as well. This was the first year of the L series so I purchased the extended warranty. Was used on a couple of minor repairs. All in all we are very happy with this car as we still have it 10 yrs later w/105500 miles.
