2000 Saturn LS2 Problems

A/C off for Engine Protection and Engine Reads Cold

The Saturn LS2 may display the warning message "A/C off for Engine Protection" on the instrument panel. This may be accompanied by illumination of the check engine light and the temperature gauge reading cold at all times. This is a feature of the engine that is activated by the power control module when it detects the engine warming up too slowly. The OBD trouble code P0128 may also be stored.

The cause is simply a worn out thermostat that stays open at all times, preventing the engine from reaching the proper operating temperature.

Replacement of the thermostat will correct the issue.

Check Engine Light Due to Gas Cap Issue

A Loose or worn gas cap may cause Check Engine Light to illuminate.

Burning Smell Due to Valve Cover Gasket Leak

A burning smell may develop due to an oil leak form one or both valve cover gaskets. Resealing the valve cover will generally correct this concern. However, the valve covers should be inspected and replaced if damaged.

Trans slips and is rough shifting, also downshifts 2nd to 1st at too high an RPM for 2 seconds when gas pedal is pressed hard. Top center brake lights burn out repeatedly. Dash lights go out in some locations. Engine is noisy outside! W...
