2007 Saturn Ion Repair and Maintenance
A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your 2007 Saturn Ion
2007 Saturn Ion Problems
The power steering assist may be lost intermittently along with illumination of the "power steering" warning message. In most cases, the power steering system will return to normal when the ignition is cycled off and the engine is restarted. General Motors recommends to replace the electric power steering assist motor to correct this problem. They have extended the warranty on the power steering assist motor to 10 years or 100,000 miles on most 2004-2007 Ion models. This is not a "recall" but an extension of the original warranty.
Illumination of the Check Engine Light can be caused by a loose or worn gas cap.

2007 Saturn Ion Recalls
In order to help prevent rollaway type accidents, all late model vehicles are designed so that the transmission must be in park (or reverse for a manual transmission) before the ignition switch can be turned to the "off" position and the key removed. These vehicles are being recalled because the key can be removed when the ignition is not in the "off" position, increasing the risk of a rollaway type accident. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the ignition lock cylinder as necessary. 2 new keys will also be supplied and programmed as required.
The vehicles being recalled are equipped with an electric power steering (EPS) assist system. The EPS can fail unexpectedly while driving. If this were to occur, steering ability would be maintained but much greater effort would be necessary to steer the vehicle, especially at slow speeds. One of four remedies will be applied depending on the model and year. Parts are not yet available so expect a second notification when they are.
These vehicles are being recalled because the weight on the key ring and/or a jarring event while driving may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Dealers will replace the ignition switch to correct this concern.

OK I have had my Saturn Ion for 4 years its a 2007. I have had issues with the engine like crazy for 2 years now I have had the thing in and out of the shop. The check engine light comes on and stays on for weeks then will go off for weeks. At first thought it was the gas cap(cause GM doesnt make good gas caps) Well that was not it. Had the complete engine checked over and they fixed the cylind...
My check engine light has been coming on in my 2007 Saturn Ion since we bought it in 2007. I can't begin to count the times it's been in the shop. They have put four gas pedals in and rewired it and it's still doing it. When Onstar pulls the code, it says it's the throttle. They don't know what else to do with it and of coarse my warranty is up. GM has been notified and has offered NO HELP! The...
So far, we have had a great experience with our Ion. The interior was made with cheaper materials and quality. Our radio display has "spazed out" with the lights acting like strobe lights. Fuel mileage has been 28-29 at best, but we live in a warmer climate so that has a factor. Its a fun and safe car that we overall enjoy having.
