A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your 2008 Saturn Aura

2008 Saturn Aura Problems

Transmission Fault and/or Check Engine Light With Code P0716, P0776, P0717, P0777, P2714, P2715, and/or P02723

Vehicles with a 6speed automatic transmission may develop one or more of the following faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate inside the transmission: Illumination of the Check Engine Light with code P0716, P0776, P0717, P0777, P2714, P2715, and/or P02723, loss of reverse gear, slipping or harsh 3rd or 5th gear shift. Removal and dis-assembly of the transmission will be required to replace the broken 35R wave plate. It is also extremely important that all debris from the failed part be cleaned from the transmission while it is disassembled in order to try and prevent future problems.

The Check Engine Light With Code: P0011, P0014, P0021, P0024, P0341, P0346, P0336, and/or P0391

Vehicles with certain V6 engines may illuminate the Check Engine Light one or more of the following codes: P0011, P0014, P0021, P0024, P0341, P0346, P0336, or P0391. Our technicians tell us that some vehicles may require a powertrain control module (PCM) software update to correct this issue. Other vehicles may have excess camshaft end play on one or both cylinder heads which will need to be corrected using special procedures outlined by GM.

The Fuel Gauge May Not Read Correctly and/or Check Engine Light With Code P0455/P0461

The fuel gauge may not read correctly and/or the Check Engine Light may illuminate with code P0455/P0461 stored for a fuel level sensor issue. These faults may be caused by a fuel vapor line inside the fuel take interfering with the fuel level sensor. If this is found to be the case, repositioned and securing the vapor line should correct this concern. If no fault is found with the fuel vapor line, the fuel level sensor itself may be at fault.

Various Electrical Concerns

Increased resistance in an electrical connection at the body control module (BCM) may result in voltage fluctuations in the brake pedal sensor circuit. These fluctuations can cause concerns with various systems that monitor the position of the brake pedal, any of which would increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will reprogram the brake pedal sensor to correct these concerns.

Transmission Shifter Position Inaccurate

The shift cable may fracture, which can mislead the driver into thinking the transmission is in a certain gear, while actually being in another. This can cause a safety issue, as when "Park" is selected, the vehicle may not be securely in "Park". Dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket free of charge to resolve the concern.

Unexpected Loss of Power Steering Assist

The vehicles being recalled are equipped with an electric power steering (EPS) assist system. The EPS can fail unexpectedly while driving. If this were to occur, steering ability would be maintained but much greater effort would be necessary to steer the vehicle, especially at slow speeds. One of four remedies will be applied depending on the model and year. Parts are not yet available so expect a second notification when they are.

2008 Saturn Aura Reviews

Overall our 2008 Aura has been a reliable, and smooth running car. It is a bit heavy but it rides nice. Just went over 90,000, and still running great. My only complaint's are, the interior cloth is bubbling on the forward posts, and the door locks don't work properly when it gets warm out? Other than that, no major issues at this point!
Well my baby is a 2008 Aura XL 4 cylinder ecotech engine, i have 68,000 miles and the original set of tires,by the way i have more them 50% threat life still ,i just replace the brakes front and back with brake performance slotted and dimple rotors in black, i do my own oil change with Mobil 1 every 6,000 miles i get 32 miles per gallon on the highway, and depending on the city driving 26 or bet...
I love my car. I bought it new in March 2008. I haven't had any issues and I have driven all over the country in it. The only I am having right now is my driver's door lock keeps jamming. Apart from that, I have kept ONSTAR active for all these years and it was worth it.
