Turns over but no start. Seems to be getting a spark and fuel.

I changed the motor in a 3000gt the other motor started and ran just had a knock when it got warm. Replaced the motor and when u start it u have hold the accelerator to the floor to get it to started, then u have to hold it above 1500-2000 rpms to get it to run. It doesnt feel like it is creatin...

My 1991 Mitsubishi 3000gt Ls idles at 2200 rpm when in park,than the rpms drop when I shift into gear. when I took it for smog check the Tech said it would not pass with the rpms being so high that the normal idle should be around 750-800 rpm. what is the possible cause for the rpms being so high?
