The engine oil pan gasket can develop a leak. Leaking oil may accumulate on the exhaust system resulting in a burning smell. Replacing the gasket should correct this leak.

The magnet for the camshaft position sensor may fall out of its mount and damage the synchronizers. This causes long crank times when starting the engine and may cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. If this happens, both the magnets and the synchronizers need to be replaced.

Im stuck like Chuck with this Sable. More money has been put in for repairs in last two years than what BlueBook value is. Since mandated Emissions Testing in Travis County this car has not been able to pass inspection due to Check engine and more than 5 error codes on 5 Banks. We bought our 2005 Sable in August 2009. It had 52,000 miles on it. My husband uses it to commute to work 130 miles round trip - 5-6 days/week. We also use it on weekends because our Taurus has 150,000 miles on it. So we put 43,000 miles on the Sable in one year.
