1993 Mercury Sable Problems

Coolant Loss, Engine Overheating, White Smoke From Exhaust

White smoke coming from the exhaust could indicate that a head gasket has blown or there is a cracked cylinder head. Our technicians tell us that removal and inspection of the cylinder heads will be required to confirm a crack is present.

Clunking Noise and/or Damaged AC Hose

Worn motor mounts can cause the motor to rise during acceleration, causing a clunking noise and possibly damaging the AC hoses. Damage to the AC hoses can cause a loss refrigerant resulting in no cold air from the AC. The motor mount will need to be replaced prior to repairing the damaged hose or the problem will continue.

Clunk and/or Rattle Due to Worn Inner Tire Rod Ends

While steering, if you hear a clunk or a rattle, or if you experience premature tire wear, this could indicate the inner tie rod ends are loose or worn and will require replacement.

1993 Mercury Sable Recalls

Ford Recalls 1986-1995 Vehicles for Corroded Subframe Mount Plate Nuts

Ford has recalled certain 1986-1995 Taurus and Mercury Sable models and 1988-1994 Lincoln Continental models in high corrosion, cold weather states because the rear subframe mount plate nuts may corrode and fail, causing the subframe to drop. If the subframe drops, loss of vehicle control and functionality can occur. Dealers will install subframe rear mount bolts, reinforcement plates, and plate nuts.

Ford Recalls 1993 Models for Potentially Fractured Front Springs

Ford has recalled certain 1993 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles in cold weather states for a concern with the front coil springs. In states with high corrosion rates, the front coil springs could develop cracks and fracture. If this happens, the front tires could be damaged, causing a possible loss of vehicle control. Dealers will install shields on the front coil springs to prevent the front tires from being contacted in the event of spring breakage.

Ford Provides Extended Coverage to Taurus and Mercury Sable Vehicles for Front Springs

Ford has extended the warranty on the front coil springs on 1993 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles registered or sold in cold weather corrosion states. This is in conjunction with a safety recall to protect tires in the event of spring failure. In the event of fracture through the year 2001, dealers will replace both front springs.

best damn car i ever owned 21 years + 88,000 miles will drive it forever!
I drove my Sable out of the Manhattan showroom Christmas 1993 and she has been a very sweet ride for the last 19 years and 180,000 miles. I had various parts replaced in recent years ie: alternator, water pump, radiator. Major issue was the head gaskets replaced Jan 2011 and for no apparent reason since the car never ran low on coolant or overheated. Its 6000 miles later and she flys as she a...
I bought this care for $1100 ten months ago with 106,000 miles. The royal blue paint job is wearing off and the dashboard has cracks. I saw another identical Sable in the same color and it's paint is wearing off the exact same way! The car runs perfectly. Immediately after purchase I had my mechanic check it out and do a major tuneup and maintenance for $700. I was taking it on a 2,500 mil...
